Voters: You Decide the Future of Kihei Flooding

How the Maui County Council controls development & restorations:

The Council holds the power to restore wetlands and regulate the sprawl that causes these disasters. Through zoning regulations and infrastructure investment, they are the front line in local flood mitigation and environmental restoration.

Restore Wetlands

Wetlands are natures way of protecting our islands from destructive flooding. Irresponsible developers put profits over People.  Thanks to previous Councilmember Kelly Kings leadership, the Maui County Council enacted Bill 91 (2022), codified as Ordinance 5421, as the enabling legislation to establish a comprehensive policy for wetlands restoration and protection.  Now we need to finish the job Kelly King started and pass legislation creating the Kihei Wetlands Overlay District.

Regulate Sprawl

The Maui County Council must enforce strict development controls to hold irresponsible developers accountable for projects that worsen flooding. We must elect Councilmembers who prioritize the safety of our ʻohana and local people over the greed of special interests and luxury developers. By blocking reckless growth in flood-prone zones, our leadership can ensure the land is managed with pono values instead of being sold to the highest bidder.
